Marla Young – Music/Band

Marla Young has been teaching music and band at Vandalia since 2008. Growing up in western Canada, she was very active in several music groups in school, church and other ministries. Influenced by her first grade teacher and high school band director, she knew that this was the career path she wanted to pursue. In college, the Lord gave her the desire to teach in a Christian school where she would be able to work with all age groups and someday have her children get a Christ-centered education. She graduated from Bethel College in 1998 with a degree in Music Education and a double minor in youth ministry and business. She taught at two public junior high schools in Oregon for a year before getting married and moving to North Carolina. Today, she serves alongside her husband, a youth minister and sound engineer, in their church and in raising their three children. Their family is involved in Piedmont Cowboy Church and also sings southern gospel music. Her life verse is Proverbs 16:3; “Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established.”
