PTF Family Fun Night

Friday, March 7, VCS will host its 16th Annual “Pack Out the Gym” Family Fun Night! Fliers were sent home today about the event.  Please make your plans now to attend this fun-filled event.  If you wish to purchase a spaghetti or hot dog dinner, please send in the bottom portion of the flier that was sent home.  (If you do not have time to send in the order form, still come…we will have plenty!)  Please give us a call if you have any questions.

Social Media

sm_iconsWith all this is being said in the news media about Insta-gram, Twitter, Facebook, Snap-chat, etc., we want to encourage your school parents to be extra vigilant in keeping close tabs on your child’s social media accounts.  You can help to insure that your child’s account is guarded by making some secure settings adjustments and making sure your child does not allow anyone to “follow” them online.  This will make it much more difficult for someone to “hack” in.  Please remind your child that he/she is not allowed to use a phone at school from the time they arrive in the morning until after the 3:10 bell rings.  The consequences for doing so is 5 demerits and the phone will be confiscated and held in the office until a parent can pick it up.  As always, if you have any questions, please give us a call.

Re-enrollment 2014

Our FINAL re-enrollment meeting for the school year, 2014-15 was Friday, February 28.   If you were not able to attend one of the scheduled meetings, you are welcomed to attend an open enrollment meeting with new families.  We cannot guarantee re-enrollment if you wait until open enrollment to return your re-enrollment forms.  Please give those forms to Mrs. James in “C” building.  As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.  Open Enrollment begins March 13!  After that date, enrollment is first come, first served bases.

Snow Days

I am sure many of you are wondering what our next step is with making up snow days.  I will let you know our plan for making up Tuesday, March 4 by next week.  We have a few options and I want to make sure it is the one that will best suit our school.  I will tell you that unless something drastic happens with the weather, we will not extend the school year.  I know many already have vacation plans locked in and we do not want to interfere with that.  I will keep you posted.

eTextbooks

During the last 9 re-enrollment meetings I mentioned that VCS is moving toward using eTextbooks more and more.  If you will have a rising Junior or Senior for the fall of 2014 and are interested in having your child use eTextbooks, please let me know.  Since we do not charge a book fee for the textbooks we currently use, you would be responsible for the cost of the eTextbooks your child will use as well supplying the tablet device.  If you are interested, please email me.  Thanks!

Snow Day Pictures

We are still looking for any pictures of your children from the snow days, please consider emailing them to Miss Adams at Courtney.adams@vcsvikings.net  They have an extra spread and thought it would be an interesting feature and a way to put high school and elementary on the same page.  (And we all know we have had plenty of snow days!)

BELKS Charity Day

In the next few weeks I will share with you some pertinent information about an upcoming event that will benefit our school and your pocket book!  Keep your eyes peeled ladies; sorry men.

Viking Night at Subway!vcs_subway

Viking Night was such a success that we are going to continue!  Here are the dates for this semester: March 12, April 9 and May 14.  VCS will receive a percentage of all sales from 5pm-9pm on these dates.  Come out and help our school as well as getting a healthy meal!

Inclement Weather

Please keep in mind that if we close or delay school you will receive a call through our SchoolCast mass communication system.  We also post that information on channels 2 and 8.  If you do not get a call or see it posted, that means we are on a regular schedule.   We will ALWAYS forgive tardies and absences on bad weather days if you do not feel safe driving.

Europe Trip 2015

If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late!  Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information.  This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective!  Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions.   This is going to be an amazing trip!!!

Helping VCS While You Shop

If you shop at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Target or Lifeway, please consider linking your rewards card with our school.  We get quarterly checks from them that go toward the Christmas Staff Appreciation Drive.  Thank you for your consideration of this blessing to the teachers!

Lost & Found

Keep in mind that all lost items will be placed in “Lost & Found” in “A” and “C” buildings.  Please check these weekly if you are missing anything.  Please note that all of the unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of each month.  If you will write your child’s name in all clothing items, we will make sure anything lost is returned to you.

Word from My Heart

I read an illustration the other day that made me smile and think.  Let me share it with you.  As the story goes there were two prizefighters in the ring and one of the fighters was doing much better than the other.  When the round ended and the bell rang, the struggling fighter made his way to his corner for a bit of rest and advice from his trainer.  The trainer, trying to encourage the beleaguered boxer said, “Man you are doing great.  He can’t touch you.  You are winning this fight.  You making him wish he’d never shown up!”  The boxer looked at his trainer through swollen eyes and said, “If he is not beating me up you’d better keep an eye on the referee.  Because somebody is killing me out there!”

That is a humorous story but there is a good point to it.  There is a tremendous amount of room among Christians to encourage each other.  As a matter of fact, I don’t think we do it far enough!  But there is also a place for us to remind each other that there is an enemy and we need to steer clear of his temptations, trip-ups and trappings.  We do no brother or sister in Christ a favor by ignoring problems that are visible.  Go to those you love in the Lord when needed and hold them up, bandage them up and remind them to look up and turn away from the sin of this world.
