SAT For 7-12 Grades

Students in grades 7-12 will begin taking their Stanford Achievement Tests on Monday, April 7 rather than Tuesday, April 8. Results will be sent home with final report cards.

BELK Charity Day

The new Belk department store off Wendover at the Palladium Shopping center is partnering with area schools for a Charity Day event.  This 4 hour ticketed event will begin at 6am on Saturday, May 3.  Discounts of up to 70% on rarely discounted brands will be available.  ALL proceeds from the tickets sales from our school will remain at VCS.  If you would like to purchase a $5 ticket, please stop by any of the school offices starting tomorrow through, Friday, May 2.  (By the way, you get $5 off your first purchase that day…so you do the math!)

The College Board New Type Tryout Opportunity Test

VCS has been invited to test our sophomores, juniors and seniors in a research study on some new item types for possible inclusion in future assessments.  In order to ensure these new item types meet the high quality standards and perform as the College Board expects they should, they are offering a limited opportunity to tryout these items with our school.  We will test our students on April 24 right after homeroom and they will finish before lunch.  This test will NOT affect student grades or transcripts in any way, but will give them good preparation for taking College Boards.  No preparation needed for this test.

Re-enrollment 2014

If you were not able to attend one of the scheduled meetings, you are welcomed to attend an open enrollment meeting with new families.  Since open enrollment has now begun, it is imperative that you return your re-enrollment forms as soon as possible, as enrollment is now on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please give those forms to Mrs. James in “C” building.  As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.  The next scheduled meeting will be April 8 at 7:00pm in the church.

Children-Around-the-World Festival

earthOn Friday, March 28, the elementary school of VCS will host its annual Children-Around-the-World Festival.  During this event each grade level will showcase a different country that the students have researched and learned about over the last several months.  If at all possible, please make your plans to stop by the gym during school hours to visit the displays.

Junior/Senior High Science Fair

On Friday, April 4, the VCS Science Department will host its Science Fair.  During this event students from each science class will present and defend a science project.  If at all possible, please make your plans to stop by the gym during school hours to visit the displays.

Make-Up Snow Days

As a reminder, in order to insure that we meet the NC Department of Education’s required academic days, we are altering our school calendar.  We will reduce our Easter Break by one day to April 17-21 and extend the closing of the school year to 12 noon on Friday, May 23.  Thankfully, these are very minor changes.  However, we know that some families may have already scheduled vacations that will conflict with the extended dates.  Please note that we will excuse any absences from school on April 22 and May 23 as long as we get a note from you at least one week in advance of those dates.  Thank you for your understanding.

PTF Family Fun Night

Thank you to all who turned out for the PTF Family Fun Night last Friday.  I think a great time was had by all.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Faith-In-Action

As we have done in the past, our Faith-In-Action community outreach program is going to help provide to families in our community that are in need, especially to those affected by the recent ice storm and subsequent power outages.  During the month of March and April we will collect peanut butter, jelly, non-perishable microwavable meals, and grocery store gift cards in any amount to go to those in need.  Please give your donation to your child’s teacher or to one of the school offices.  Thank you.

eTextbooks

ipadIf you will have a rising Junior or Senior for the fall of 2014 and are interested in having your child use eTextbooks, please let me know.  Since we do not charge a book fee for the textbooks we currently use, you would be responsible for the cost of the eTextbooks your child will use as well supplying the tablet device.  If you are interested, please email me.  Thanks!

Europe Trip 2015

If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late!  Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information.  This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective!  Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions.   This is going to be an amazing trip!!!

Word from My Heart

As you can see, I have run out of space again this week!  However, I have a quote for you from the Great Awaking Evangelist, Jonathan Edwards, which speaks volumes.  “Resolve never to do anything that you would not do in the last hour of your life before meeting God.”  Wow and Amen.
