If you were not able to attend one of the scheduled meetings, you are welcomed to attend an open enrollment meeting with new families. Since open enrollment has now begun, it is imperative that you return your re-enrollment forms as soon as possible, as enrollment is now on a first-come, first-served basis. Please give those forms to Mrs. James in “C” building. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know. The next scheduled meeting will be April 8 at 7:00pm in the church.
SAT For 7-12 Grades
Students in grades 7-12 will begin taking their Stanford Achievement Tests on Monday, April 7 rather than Tuesday, April 8. Students in grades K5-6 will take their tests from between April 7-11. Results will be sent home with final report cards in June. Please insure your students are in class on time these days as we will begin testing right after announcements. Missed sections may not be able to be made up and students will not be admitted to class after testing begins.
Elementary Fine Arts
Elementary Fine Arts still needs volunteers for the following:
- Bus Drivers (CDL Required) – April 23 and 25
- Hall Monitors (1 Each Day) – April 23, 24 and 25
If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Poole at email@example.com as soon as possible. We will provide your lunch and you will have a great time with our students!
We still have 30 Boxes of World’s Finest Chocolate Candy for selling. Please contact Mrs. Frazier if you are interested. Thank you again for your support of this fundraiser!
Field Day Is Coming!
On May 2 we will hold a “Field Day” for all K5-6th grade students. It will last from 8:30-1:00 and will include various gams/activities and lunch. The cost for each child will be $5.00 for lunch and games and $2.00 for games only if you choose to send lunch for your for your child. A letter about parent volunteers and a lunch order form will come home today with your child. If you don’t want lunch that day, simply send $2.00. The students had a great time last year and we hope they have as much fun this year.
A special congratulations to Raelin Davis, one of our seniors, for being in the running for “Player Of The Year” in Greensboro and for Tyler Daniels for being a “Write-In” for the same award. If you have a moment, consider going to the following webpage to cast a vote for Tyler:
BELK Charity Day
The new Belk department store off Wendover at the Palladium Shopping center is partnering with area schools for a Charity Day event. This 4 hour ticketed event will begin at 6am on Saturday, May 3. Discounts of up to 70% on rarely discounted brands will be available. ALL proceeds from the tickets sales from our school will remain at VCS. If you would like to purchase a $5 ticket, please stop by any of the school offices through, Friday, May 2.
The College Board New Type Tryout Opportunity Test
VCS has been invited to test our sophomores, juniors and seniors in a research study on some new item types for possible inclusion in future SAT assessments. In order to ensure these new item types meet the high quality standards and perform as the College Board expects they should, they are offering a limited opportunity to tryout these items with our school. We will test our students on April 24 right after homeroom and they will finish before lunch. This test will NOT affect student grades or transcripts in any way, but will give them good preparation for taking College Boards. No preparation needed for this test.
Junior/Senior High Science Fair
This Friday, April 4, the VCS Science Department will host its Science Fair. During this event students from each science class will present and defend a science project. If at all possible, please make your plans to stop by the gym during school hours to visit the displays.
Make-Up Snow Days
In order to make up missed school days because of the weather, we will reduce our Easter Break by one day to April 17-21 and extend the closing of the school year to 12 noon on Friday, May 23. These are very minor changes; however, we know that some families may have already scheduled vacations that will conflict with the extended dates. Please note that we will excuse any absences from school on April 22 and May 23 as long as we get a note from you at least one week in advance of those dates. 3rd-6th Grade award ceremonies will remain on May 22 as scheduled. Thank you for your understanding!
As we have done in the past, our Faith-In-Action community outreach program is going to help provide to families in our community that are in need, especially to those affected by the recent ice storm and subsequent power outages. During the month of March and April we will collect peanut butter, jelly, non-perishable microwavable meals, and grocery store gift cards in any amount to go to those in need. Please give your donation to your child’s teacher or to one of the school offices. Thank you.
If you will have a rising Junior or Senior for the fall of 2014 and are interested in having your child use eTextbooks, please let me know. Since we do not charge a book fee for the textbooks we currently use, you would be responsible for the cost of the eTextbooks your child will use as well supplying the tablet device. If you are interested, please email me. Thanks!
Europe Trip 2015
If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late! Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information. This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective! Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions. This is going to be an amazing trip!!!
Word from My Heart
Today is “National Kindergarten Tacky Day.” You should see the students in our kindergartens! Hair everywhere, mismatched clothes, odd accessories, etc. It has been a fun day in “C” building.
As chaotic as it has been I was reminded of two things; we serve a God of order, “Let all things be done decently and in order.” 1 Cor.14; 40. But He also reminds us that we should be happy, Psalm 144:15.
Remember to honor the Lord in all things, but smile while you are doing it.
