Uganda Missions Trip
This summer Ms. Brookshire, Miss Hazelwood, Miss Kivett and I are going on a missions trip to Uganda, Africa to minister at a sister Christian school along with 7 other Christian school teachers. We will leave July 24 and return August 3. Please pray for us that we will be an encouragement to the teachers there. Also, if you would like to support this trip monetarily, you are welcomed to make a donation at one of the offices. Make your check out to Vandalia Baptist Church and make sure it comes to my attention, Mark Weatherford. We cannot do this without the prayers of our VCS family. Thank you!
Re-enrollment 2014
If you were not able to attend one of the scheduled meetings, you are welcomed to attend an open enrollment meeting with new families. Since open enrollment has now begun, it is imperative that you return your re-enrollment forms as soon as possible, as enrollment is now on a first-come, first-served basis. Please give those forms to Mrs. James in “C” building. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know. The next scheduled meeting will be May 8 at 7:00pm “C” Building.
Summer Daycare Packets
Summer Daycare Registration Packets are now available through any of the offices. Summer Daycare is open to all enrolled students for 2014-2015 entering K3 through students just finishing 6th grade. Pre-school students must be 3 if entering K3 and 4 if entering K4 by the time Daycare begins. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Herriage.
Fine Arts News
On May 2 & 3, the VCS Music Department will present, Music Through the Decades – A Musical Review. Take a trip back in time as you are entertained with comedy and classics. Concessions will be available at each performance, Friday, May 2 at 7:00pm and Saturday, May 3 at 12:00 noon. Both performances will be held in the gym. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds will go to the music department. Tickets will be available from Mrs. Poole in “C” building beginning April 28.
“Can a Viking be a PIRATE too?” At music camp this summer, it’s possible. Current 3rd -6th graders are invited to join us June 9-13 for instrumental and vocal music, games, food and much more. Please pick up a camp brochure at the band room after Easter Break or contact Mrs. Young for more details. ALSO, a beginning guitar “crash course” will be offered the week of June 9-13 in the afternoons after music camp. Current 1st -12th graders may attend. Again, please stop by the band room after Easter or contact Mrs. Young.
WEEDING is FUN!
OK, maybe it is not fun, but it is a part of life in the spring in the South! I am looking for volunteers to help weed the shrub beds in the front of the school building in preparation for our up-coming concerts, awards programs and graduations. We will have a lot of visitors on campus and we want everything to look as good as possible. We want our school have a good testimony for the Lord. If you are willing to help with this endeavor, please let me know. There is not particular time frame, just whatever works into your schedule. We will provide the trash bags, but you will need to bring your own gloves. Thank you for considering the ministry!
Field Day Is Coming!
On May 2 we will hold a “Field Day” for all K5-6th grade students. It will last from 8:30-1:00 and will include various gams/activities and lunch. The cost for each child will be $5.00 for lunch and games and $2.00 for games only if you choose to send lunch for your child. A letter about parent volunteers and a lunch order form was sent home with your child. If you don’t want lunch that day, simply send $2.00. The students had a great time last year and we hope they have as much fun this year. We would like all orders/monies turned in by Friday, April 25.
BELK Charity Day
The new Belk department store off Wendover at the Palladium Shopping center is partnering with area schools for a Charity Day event. This 4 hour ticketed event will begin at 6am on Saturday, May 3. Discounts of up to 70% on rarely discounted brands will be available. ALL proceeds from the tickets sales from our school will remain at VCS. If you would like to purchase a $5 ticket, please stop by any of the school offices through, Friday, May 2.
Make-Up Snow Days
In order to make up missed school days because of the weather, we will extend the closing of the school year to 12 noon on Friday, May 23. Please note that we will excuse any absences on May 23 as long as we get a note from you at least one week in advance of those dates. 3rd-6th Grade award ceremonies will remain on May 22 as scheduled. Thank your for understanding!
Faith-In-Action
As we have done in the past, our Faith-In-Action community outreach program is going to help provide to families in our community that are in need, especially to those affected by the recent ice storm and subsequent power outages. During the month of March and April we will collect peanut butter, jelly, non-perishable microwavable meals, and grocery store gift cards in any amount to go to those in need. Please give your donation to your child’s teacher or to one of the school offices. Thank you.
eTextbooks
If you will have a rising Junior or Senior for the fall of 2014 and are interested in having your child use eTextbooks, please let me know. Since we do not charge a book fee for the textbooks we currently use, you would be responsible for the cost of the eTextbooks your child will use as well supplying the tablet device. If you are interested, please email me. Thanks!
Europe Trip 2015
If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late! Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information. This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective! Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions. This is going to be an amazing trip!!!
Word from My Heart
Living in NASCAR country we can all relate to the idea of a race! Someone always wins and someone always loses. That what makes it a race. We are in a race right now…a race toward the end of the school year and the finish line is coming up quickly. Let’s all finish strong.
Unlike a NASCAR race, however, in the Christin race we can all be winners if we follow the plan of our Lord. He tells us to press on toward the prize through obedience and we can all win. Are you pressing on?
