VCS Hosts State Baseball and Soccer Tournaments
Since VCS will host the Spring NCCSA State Tournaments this year, and since there will be many guests on campus Friday, we will dismiss school at noon. Lunch will be served to all students in grades K3-6. Students in grades 7-12 will need to bring lunch if they stay in daycare or have lunch after they are picked up. Daycare will be open to students already registered from noon until 6:00pm.
The cost to attend the games will be $4 per student, $5 per adult and not exceed $15 per family. VCS Athletic Passes are invalid at State Tournaments. Concessions will be available.
Special Need for a School Family
One of our school families is expecting a new baby shortly. This new little girl, however, has been diagnosed with several congenital heart defects. They are planning to go the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to get the best care for this new blessing from God. Please pray with them as they near the delivery time. Also, if you would like to assist them in other ways, please contact me and I will pass on their contact information. Now is the time to stand together to pray as a VCS family.
Congratulations to our Varsity Golf team for placing 2nd in the State during the tournament on Tuesday. Great job! Also, thank you to the girls’ soccer team for a great season. Even though they will not be advancing to the State Tournament, they have a great season. Lastly, come out and support our boys’ Varsity Baseball team this Friday at 5:00pm as they play in the State Tournament!
Field Day Thank You
“I wanted to send a big THANK YOU for all of the volunteers and VCS Student Council Members who helped make Field Day a wonderful day. We were blessed with beautiful weather and fun for all. I look forward to making this an annual event here at VCS.” Rhonda McDowell.
Let me add my thanks as well. Everything went so smoothly from the games to lunches to clean-up.
Athletic Awards Program
On Friday, May 16, VCS will host its annual Athletic Awards Program. Tickets are on sale from Mrs. Frasier in “B” Building for $9.50 each. An email was sent home last week concerning this event. It is open to 7-12 graders and their parents only. Due to space constraints we cannot accommodate siblings, friends of students or other family members. Sunday dress is required, but please NO FORMALS.
Uganda Missions Trip
This summer Ms. Brookshire, Miss Hazelwood, Miss Kivett and I are going on a missions trip to Uganda, Africa to minister at a sister Christian school along with 7 other Christian school teachers. We will leave July 24 and return August 3. Please pray for us that we will be an encouragement to the teachers there. Also, if you would like to support this trip monetarily, you are welcomed to make a donation at one of the offices. Make your check out to Vandalia Baptist Church and make sure it comes to my attention, Mark Weatherford. We cannot do this without the prayers of our VCS family. Thank you!
If you were not able to attend one of the scheduled meetings, you are welcomed to attend an open enrollment meeting with new families. Since open enrollment has now begun, it is imperative that you return your re-enrollment forms as soon as possible, as enrollment is now on a first-come, first-served basis. Please give those forms to Mrs. James in “C” building. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know. The next scheduled meeting will be May 8 at 7:00pm “C” Building.
Exams, Final Report Cards and Transcripts
Please remember that all accounts must be current or arrangements made before students can take final exams, receive final report cards, SAT Scores and transcripts. If you have any questions about your account, please call Mrs. Overaker at ext. 14.
Summer Daycare Packets
Summer Daycare Registration Packets are now available through any of the offices. Summer Daycare is open to all enrolled students for 2014-2015 entering K3 through students just finishing 6th grade. Pre-school students must be 3 if entering K3 and 4 if entering K4 by the time Daycare begins. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Herriage.
Fine Arts News
The VCS Musical Revue went very well. Thank you to the students, music, band and art departments and Mr. Somers for his help. It was great fun.
Remember that we still have several upcoming musical concerts and end-of-the year programs. Please take special note of the calendar of events above.
“Can a Viking be a PIRATE too?” At music camp this summer, it’s possible. Current 3rd -6th graders are invited to join us June 9-13 for instrumental and vocal music, games, food and much more. Please pick up a camp brochure at the band room or contact Mrs. Young for more details. ALSO, a beginning guitar “crash course” will be offered the week of June 9-13 in the afternoons after music camp. Current 1st -12th graders may attend. Again, please stop by the band room after Easter or contact Mrs. Young.
WEEDING is FUN!
With so many visitors on campus over the next few weeks I am looking for volunteers to help weed the shrub beds in the front of the school buildings in preparation for our up-coming concerts, awards programs and graduations. We want our school have a good testimony for the Lord. If you are willing to help with this endeavor, please let me know. We will work with your schedule. We will provide the trash bags, but you will need to bring your own gloves. Thank you for considering the ministry!
Thank you for your help with the Faith-In-Action outreach program this year. As we draw this program to a close for the year we will still collect grocery store gift cards in any amount to go to those in need. Donations can be given to your child’s teacher. We look forward starting up again in the fall.
If you will have a rising Junior or Senior for the fall of 2014 and are interested in having your child use eTextbooks, please let me know. Since we do not charge a book fee for the textbooks we currently use, you would be responsible for the cost of the eTextbooks your child will use as well supplying the tablet device. If you are interested, please email me. Thanks!
Europe Trip 2015
If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late! Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information. This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective! Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions. This is going to be an amazing trip!!!
Word from My Heart
I heard the coolest blessing this week. On Monday I received an email from someone I didn’t know. While she was playing golf, she found a class ring that belonged to one of our graduates. It had the graduating year, graduate’s name and initials and VCS on the ring. It did not take long to identify the owner. I called and asked if he had played golf recently at this particular course. He said, “No, wait, I played on that course two years ago when I was on the VCS golf team.” I then told him of the discovery. What are the chances?
All I could think of was, “Never give up hope.” God is so good…even in the smallest things.
