As hard as it is to believe that summer is over, we are on our way to a great and memorable 2017-2018 school year!  Continuing our tradition, a weekly newsletter, the Viking Voice, will be emailed to you.  (Paper copies are available, if you desire, in both “A” and “C” buildings.)  Although we try to be as informative as possible concerning upcoming events and announcements, feel free to give us a call at any time during school hours if you have any questions.  Thank you for your prayers as we look forward to a wonderful, Christ-honoring school year.  GO VIKINGS!!!

Helping Us Help Your Children

The beginning of the school year is the best time to consider helping VCS with the shopping you already do!

Continue to turn in your Box Tops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products to your child’s teacher.  With the student body of our size, it will be amazing to see the benefit from this “EASY Fundraiser” if all of us join in!

Also, remember to link or re-link your Harris-Teeter VIC card so we can benefit from the Together in Education program.  Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227.  If you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school.  Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school.  Mention us the next time you shop with them.

Unfortunately the Labels for Education program has come to a close. Only UPCs with the Labels for Education logo can be accepted and redeemed for points into our school’s account. The deadline to submit and postmark UPCs into our school’s account is January 2, 2018, so we ask that you submit any labels you might have by December 14, before our Christmas Break.  Thanks!

VCS Website

In a continuing attempt to update and make our school website as relevant and informative as possible, we are looking for input from our school families.  If you would like to share a comment about our school that we might post to our website, please email that to me.  A final draft will be given to you before it is posted.

VCS Fine Arts

Attention VCS Student MUSICIANS:  We would love to have your help!  If you sing or play an instrument and would be interested helping lead music in our chapel services, please see Ms. Young to fill out an application.  Stop by Ms. Young’s room after school with your prepared song and written testimony, a one paragraph summery is fine!  If you have any questions, feel free to email  We are really looking forward to training students for leadership in ministry.

Grandparent’s Day

Next week, special information concerning our 13th Annual Grandparent’s Day will be sent home.  We are looking forward to lots of fun, fellowship and food!

Again, this Fall, our students in grades 7-12 will attend a retreat at the WILDS  just outside of Brevard, NC.  This greatly-anticipated trip is shaping up to be a memorable trip.  Whether your VCS student has attended the WILDS before or not, let me encourage you to go to their website at  A WILDS informational meeting is scheduled for September 5 for the parents of students going into the 7th and 8th grade this fall as well as newly enrolled students.  A video will be shown concluding with a Q&A time.  The meeting will be held at Vandalia Baptist Church at 7:00 pm.  This is an optional but informative meeting!

Word from My Heart

This past week I found out something interesting about my name.  Let me explain.  I chatted with each of my four children for various reasons and each of them used a different “salutation.”  One said, “Hey, Pops,” another said, “How ya’ doing, Daddy,” then I heard, “What’s Up, Daddio” and the forth one said, “S’up, Dad.”  I knew each one by their voice, but each one had a particular way to reach out to me.  Nonetheless, I knew them.

In Scripture, we find that we are compelled to go to our Heavenly Father for every need and request, (John 10:27 & 28), look it up!

Wherever you are in your Christian walk, just call out to our Lord…He will hear your voice.
