New School Year!
As I stated in last week’s Viking Voice, I would like to reiterate our welcome to our New School Families and Welcome Back to our returning families. Please let us know if there is anything we can do help make this school year as successful for you and your children. You may reach any of the teachers using their firstname.lastname@example.org format. You may also call us at 336-379-8380 for assistance. For our new families this newsletter is designed to keep you up to date on current VCS events and to inform you of upcoming events. Please take few moments each Wednesday to read it. Again, WELCOME to the 2016-2017 VCS School Year!
Vandalia Baptist Church has sponsored a special outreach program for students in grades K3-12 for nearly 30 years. This is a boys and girls Bible club that meets on Wednesday nights in our gym that promotes Bible verse memorization, fun games and team building activities. Our first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 7pm in the VCS Gym. If you do not already attend Wednesday night prayer meeting at your church, please consider our fun, active, dynamic youth programs. By the way, we have a Bible study in our church auditorium from 7:30pm-8:30pm while AWANA is taking place. Please feel welcome to join us!
After many years of service from Mrs. Shannon Mitchell and Mrs. Marie Crook, we are looking for a volunteer to head-up our community outreach program for our students in grades 9-12. If you might be interested, please give us a call. Thank you!
On Friday, September 9, we will honor our local “heroes” on Patriots Day. We would like to provide special treats to the Pleasant Garden Fire Department and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department. They have been amazing paracletes to us over the years and we would like to give a little something back to them and their families. If you would like to bring in some individually packaged goodies, (muffins, cookies, or goodies,) for us to distribute to them please drop them off to the “C” Building office Friday morning before 8:30am. Mrs. Herriage and I will deliver them along with cards made by the elementary students later that morning. Thank you!
A flier concerning our rapid alert notification system that enables VCS to reach students, parents, faculty and staff, within moments though a variety of popular communication methods was sent home today. Please read this flier and return it with your student by next Friday, September 9. If we do not receive a registration form back, we will assume you wish to be contacted for non-emergency notifications.
Grandparent’s Day information was sent home today to be returned by next Wednesday, September 7. Please note that this special luncheon is only for students in grades K3-6 and their grandparents. Due to space constraints no parents or other family members can be accommodated for this special day.
Helping Us Help Your Children
Remember to turn in your Box Tops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products and Labels-for-Education from Campbell’s Soup products to your child’s teacher. Also remember to link your Harris-Teeter VIC card so we can benefit from the Together in Education program. Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227. If you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school. Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school. Mention us the next time you shop with them.
By the way, Aluminum can pop top tabs from soda cans can be used help provide 1 FREE hour of chemotherapy treatment. Please give those “pop-top” tops placed in zip top baggies to Mrs. Herriage.
VCS Chick-fil-A Breakfast
Starting tomorrow morning, September 1, the Senior Class of VCS will make available Chick-fil-A biscuits in the Gym concession stand and the “C” Building cafeteria from 7:30am until 7:50am. The cost per breakfast sandwich is $3. This will be available every Thursday morning throughout the semester.

Word from My Heart
As most of you know I have three sons and one daughter. Over the last two years, two of my sons got married and gave me two more beautiful daughters that I could not love any less than the children that were given to us by birth. On Mother’s Day 2016 I found out that I am going to be a grandpa in December. The numbers grow. But this Saturday, my one and only baby girl is joining her life with a fine young man in marriage. The family grows again.
I could not help but ponder the thought that in all reality I am not giving my daughter away, but rather I am gaining a new son, just like I did with my son’s wives. In the illustration of God’s perfect plan of salvation, we see that when we become part of the family of God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ we are not leaving anything; we are gaining everything as we enter into the fold of God’s love and care. We are the bride, the church, to God’s Son, Jesus, the Groom. What a wonderful family to be joining.
