Spirit Shirt reminder

The final opportunity to order new VCS Spirit Shirts for the 2017-2018 School Year is tomorrow, September 1.  Please turn in your order forms by tomorrow, September 1, to be included in this year’s order!

For several years, Vandalia Baptist Church has offered the AWANA  program on Wednesday nights during the VCS School Year.  For the 2017-2018 school year, the AWANA program will still be used for K4-2nd Grade Students.  However, in a continuing effort to focus on real Bible Memorization and the “Hiding of God’s WORD” in our kid’s hearts, we are starting the Vandalia Bible Club for 3rd – 6th graders.  More details will be sent home as we get closer to the “September 13th Kick-Off” date.  You may pre-register at

Freshman Class Kudos!

Congratulations to Shea Flynn and Lindsey Routh being elected to our Student Council for the 2017-2018 school year!

Helping Us Help Your Children

The beginning of the school year is the best time to consider helping VCS with the shopping you already do!

Continue to turn in your Box Tops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products to your child’s teacher.  With the student body of our size, it will be amazing to see the benefit from this “EASY Fundraiser” if all of us join in!

Also, remember to link or re-link your Harris-Teeter VIC card so we can benefit from the Together in Education program.  Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227.  If you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school.  Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school.  Mention us the next time you shop with them.

Unfortunately the Labels for Education program has come to a close. Only UPCs with the Labels for Education logo can be accepted and redeemed for points into our school’s account. The deadline to submit and postmark UPCs into our school’s account is January 2, 2018, so we ask that you submit any labels you might have by December 14, before our Christmas Break.  Thanks!

VCS Career Day

In the Spring of 2018, VCS will host a Career Day!  This will be a fun-filled day allowing our students the opportunity to check-out several career paths, within God’s perfect plan, for their lives.  If you would like to be a part of our “Career Day Committee”, please contact Dr. Amy Brian using her email address,

Drama Department Opportunities

The Drama Department is looking for pieces to add to our “wardrobe/prop” closet.  If you have any items that we could use, we would be SO grateful!  (ex:  costumes, masks, wigs, eyeglasses, overalls/pants/shirts, neckties, old telephones, canes, costume jewelry, hats, etc).  Please bring to the  “A” building office anytime, and we will pick them up.  Thank you 🙂

Summer Daycare Needs

Although it’s really early, Mrs. Herriage is collecting “new or used” white sport/work socks for summer daycare.  (They do not have to be perfect…holes are OK!)  They will be used to make snowballs in one of the Summer activities.  You can send them in at any time this year.  Give Mrs. Herriage a call if you have any questions.

VCS Website

In a continuing attempt to update and make our school website as relevant and informative as possible, we are looking for input from our school families.  If you would like to share a comment about our school that we might post to our website, please email that to me.  A final draft will be given to you before it is posted.

VCS Fine Arts

Attention VCS Student MUSICIANS:  We want your help!  If you sing or play an instrument and want to lead music in our chapel services, please see Ms. Young to fill out an application.  Stop by Ms. Young’s room after school with your prepared song and written testimony, a one paragraph summery is fine!  If you have any questions, feel free to email  We are really looking forward to training students for leadership in ministry.

Grandparent’s Day

Special information concerning our 13th Annual Grandparent’s Day was recently sent home.  We are looking forward to lots of fun, fellowship and food! Please take note of the turn-in information!

Again, this Fall, our students in grades 7-12 will attend a retreat at the WILDS  just outside of Brevard, NC.  This greatly-anticipated trip is shaping up to be a memorable trip.  Whether your VCS student has attended the WILDS before or not, let me encourage you to go to their website at  A WILDS informational meeting is scheduled for September 5 for the parents of students going into the 7th and 8th grade this fall as well as newly enrolled students.  A video will be shown concluding with a Q&A time.  The meeting will be held at Vandalia Baptist Church at 7:00 pm.  This is an optional but informative meeting!

Word from My Heart

Anytime you hear a boy say, “Hey, let’s make a ramp,” know that a cast is going to be in the mix.

Psalm 119:105 sums up the very foundation of Vandalia Christian School.  We start each day, each chapel and each thought with these few words; “Thy WORD is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” May our daily prayer be forever those words!
