This is a special sale at lunch to help support the Junior Class as they look toward the Junior/Senior Banquet held second semester. Information will be sent home next week, but keep in mind that will be the only meal served through our school on that day.
VCS Family Business Directory
Last year we started a Family Business Directory. The rationale behind this directory is to inform others in our school community of business that are owned and/or operated by other school families. I will update last year’s directory over the next few weeks and will post it on our website. If you had your information in the directory last year and need it updated, please let me know. If you would like to add a business, please let me know that as well. All I need is an email from you with the name of your business, the name of the contact person, a contact number, email and web address if available and brief description of what your business provides. This service is free of charge to our school families and reaches hundreds of other school families. We are setting an initial deadline for turning in your information of October 2.
Thank you for your great support of the Attractions Coupon Book sale! If you have not returned unsold books, please do so no later than by Monday, September 14. If you would still like to purchase an Attractions Book, please see Mrs. Frazier in the Gym Building office.
One of our school parents is looking for a part-time receptionist/secretary to work from 9:00am – 2:30pm Monday through Friday. This would be a great fit for a VCS parent looking for flexible part-time work. Interested applicants can contact Ann Castagna at 336-273-2640.
Grandparent’s Day is Coming!
On Thursday, September 17, VCS will host its 12th Annual Grandparent’s Day Luncheon for the students in grades K3-6 and their grandparents. Information was recently sent home via email and in the students’ Wednesday folders. Please remember this is an event for students and their grandparents only. Since the food order was placed today, we will not be able to take any late orders. Thank you for your understanding.
Back-To-School Festival Yard Sale
Information was sent home about the upcoming Back-To-School Festival on Saturday, September 19. As you look forward to this annual event, please consider sending in any items you would like to donate to the yard sale. All proceeds from the yard sale will go directly to the PTF to continue assisting our school and teachers with capital improvement projects. (And we have several exciting ideas on the horizon!) You may bring items for the yard sale to the gym on Friday, September 18. Thank you!
“Bake-To-School” Bake Sale
If you would are willing to donate baked goods for the Festival Bake Sale, they would be greatly appreciated. You may drop them off anytime on Friday at the “C” Building office. You may also bring items directly to the Gym when you arrive Saturday for the festival.
Helping Us Help Your Children
Please consider turning in your BoxTops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products and Labels-for-Education from Campbell’s Soup products to your child’s teacher. Let’s set a new record this year for the most labels and boxtops turned in! Forms are available through the offices to make this process easier.
Remember to re-link your Harris-Teeter VIC card the next time you shop so we can benefit from their Together In Education program. Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227 the next time you use your VIC card. By the way, if you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school.
Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school. Just register with customer service the next time you shop with them.
Targetalso makes donations, just mention linking your Target account to VCS.
Thank you for Helping Us Help Your Children.
By the way, Aluminum can pop tops from soda cans, canned goods, etc., can be used help those in need of dialysis treatment to get 1 FREE hour of chemotherapy treatment. Those “pop-top” tops can be put into zip top baggies and given to Mrs. Herriage.

Spirit Shirt order forms will be sent home next week! Take special note of the turn-in dates. We will do our best to get them back before Homecoming, but that means we must place the order quickly. Keep an eye out for the order form that will be sent home soon. The form will also be posted on the Website for your convenience.
Vandalia Baptist Church will again this year sponsor the AWANA youth outreach program on Wednesday nights starting September 16. Please note that you can pre-register your child(ren) for AWANA by going to http://vbcgso.com/awana/register Registration will also be accepted on the opening night of AWANA on September 16 at 7:00pm. The AWANA program is a Christ-centered boys and girls club where the kids learn Bible truths, memorize Bible verses, play fun games and learn how to work together as a team. If your child does not already participate in a youth program at your home church, please consider this program. Keep in mind that Vandalia Baptist Church has a mid-week prayer meeting from 7:30-8:30 during the same time AWANA is going on. Please feel welcomed to join us!
If you are looking for a tutor for your child in grades 3-9 that shares your Biblical Worldview and is a great supporter of VCS, please call Mrs. Linda Boren at 337-4826 or 674-5210. She will be able to fill you in with all the details of venue, times and cost.
Our Annual VCS Homecoming will be held on October 2. As we have a great number of alumni that currently have their children attending VCS, might I encourage you to reach out to your classmates via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or whatever the “flavor of the month” social media tool that is current, and invite them to come out the games. The JV Game will begin at 5:00pm then the Crowning of the Homecoming Queen with the Varsity Game immediately following! Come and enjoy the fun!
The week after Homecoming will be our First Annual HARVEST MONTH. For several years we have accepted non-perishable food items to help the needy in our community. This year we have a specific project for these items to benefit. In Snow Camp, NC there is a ministry called Siloam Missionary Homes. This a community specifically designed to minister to the needs of missionaries spreading the Gospel of Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that are home on furlough or are on deputation trying to get the field of service to which the Lord has called them. This “pounding” of food items will bless and encourage these folks called to minister as missionaries. Please consider picking up an extra can or boxed item while doing your grocery shopping. You may start that process now and turn those items in to your child’s teacher starting NOW. On Thursday, October 22, the director of the Saloam Missionary Homes Ministry is scheduled to be with us for chapel and we would like to present our offering of support in the area of pantry items to him.
Word from My Heart
This past summer I had the wonderful opportunity to go with a great group of VCS students and parents to Europe. Over the next few months I will share a few stories with you about our trip. One of the best things about travel is getting to experience different cultures and customs. As different as Europe is, one thing remained constant. Believers in Christ and His precious work on Calvary binds us together. Let’s always remember to pray for fellow believers; those next door and those across the pond.
