Return America – Take A Stand Rally
On Tuesday, September 30, Return America will once again host a rally on the Halifax Mall behind the NC Legislative Building in Raleigh. We would like to take as many of our 10th – 12th grade students as possible along with their teachers and any parents that might like to attend. The school has chartered two buses and we will take our coach. Once the permission slips come in I will have an idea of how many available seats we will have for parents. This is a free trip and we will even purchase lunch for all attendees on the way back to school. We will leave on September 30 at 8:30am and return by 3:00pm that afternoon. Permission slips have been given out and must be returned by September 19 in order for your child to attend this important and historic event. All classwork assignments will be forgiven for that day. Please visit www.returnamerica.org for more information about this upcoming event.
Again this year, Vandalia Baptist Church will host AWANA, (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed), a boys and girls club for children ages 3 through 6th grade. The program began September 10; however, it is not too late to join. The AWANA ministry is a free program held each Wednesday night from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Please contact Garrett Jackson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-2162 if you would like more information.

Attractions Book Sale
Thank you to all who participated in the Attractions Book Sale. If you have not turned in or paid for your book(s), please do so as soon as possible. The sale is over and we need to close out our records, however, we do have extra books in the office if you would like to purchase one. Our winner for the book sale this year is Elizabeth Eubanks in Mrs. Burchett’s 4th grade. She sold 26 books! Congratulations Elizabeth!
We are looking for a part time accompanist to work with our choral groups this year. If are interested or know of someone that might be, please contact me. Thank you!
We are looking for some help in our afterschool program from 2:45pm until 6:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Mrs. Herriage at 379-8380.
Starting soon, PowerAde Zero will be available in the vending machines in the gym. I would appreciate your feedback on this new item.
Back-to-School Festival/Book Fair
Thank you to all that attended and helped in this year’s Back-to-School festival and Book Fair! It was a great success. Although it was a bit dreary outside we had a blast inside the gym…and in the dunking booth outside! Again, thank you! By the way, we have some of the BBQ frozen that we cooked on sight available for $6 per pound. Please stop by the office in “C” Building and we will happy to assist you.
VCS “Five BELOW” Opportunity
“Five Below” is offering a special week of fundraising for Vandalia. During the week of September 28 through October 4 you can shop at Five Below on Wendover Avenue and 10% of every purchase will be given to our school. Just show them your flyer that will be emailed today and it’s in the bag (no pun intended)! When you receive the flyer that will be emailed today, you can make as many copies as you like and shop as many times as you want. Be sure to tell all your friends too!”
If you or your child in grades 7-12 and all alumni and friends, might be interested in a trip to Europe with VCS this summer, please consider contacting the office as soon as possible, We had a final informational meeting Tuesday, September 16, but there is still room on the trip! This trip to England, France, Munich and Austria will be amazing!
Lost and Found
The “Lost and Found” bins are located in “A” and “C” buildings. If your child has lost an item, please stop by and check these bins. All unclaimed items will be removed and donated to charity on at regular intervals.
Word from My Heart
It’s hard to believe that Fall will begin this week! It has been nice to feel the hint of coolness in the air in the mornings. And that is promise of more to come. I love fall, it is probably my favorite time of year…sans the allergies!
I know I have shared this story I read some time ago, but it bears repeating.
While riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall an elderly mother and her daughter stopped at an overlook to admire the brightly colored trees. The mother was the first to speak, “Isn’t it amazing how God takes something just before it dies and makes it so beautiful?” Her daughter looked over at her frail mother, white wispy hair blowing in the soft breeze, bright clear eyes and nearly translucent skin and said, “Yes, it is.”
God’s way is perfect. His plan is wise and kind toward His children. It never ceases to amaze me that although we may go through times of trial – we are always in His strong hand.
