VCS Hosts NCCSA Volleyball/Soccer Tournaments Sports Passes
VCS is honored to host the State Varsity Volleyball/Varsity Soccer Tournament this fall on October 23-25. We are going to need your help! On Friday, October 24, please remind your children that drive to school to park behind the church. This will help accommodate the extra needs for parking on that day. Also, please keep in mind that since this is a State tournament, your Viking Passes will not be valid. The cost for entrance will be $4 for students, $5 for adults, or $15 per each family.
The senior class is selling Chick-fil-A Calendars for 2015 to help offset the cost of their senior trip in January. These high value calendars are available for purchase through any of the offices. The cost per calendar is $7, which is less than you can buy them for at the Chick-fil-A restaurants. These calendars will be available through December 22 and they make great Christmas presents! Please give us a call if you have any questions.
Christmas Break Return Date Change
After re-evaluating the school calendar we have decided to move the return date to school after Christmas to Monday, January 5. I can hear the “yippees” from the students right now!
VCS Varsity Volleyball and Soccer
Both Varsity Volleyball and Soccer Teams are going to Regionals! The girls will play at Faith this Friday, October 17, at 4:00pm and the boys will play Faith at HOME at 7:00pm. Wear your spirit shirts on Friday and support our teams to help advance them to the State Tournament! As the host school, please plan to park in the church parking lot on those days if you are planning to support the teams.
VCS Fine Arts
Any students in grades 7-12 that are interested in participating in the annual Fine Arts competition in the areas of vocal, piano, string, wind or percussion solo, please see Mrs. Young or Mrs. Ellis this week to sign up. Auditions will be held after school on Monday, October 20.
HeadMaster Online Parent Portal
In order to avoid any confusion, from now on, please call the office to make any changes to your phone numbers, street address or email address. Thank you!
PTF – BBQ
The VCS-PTF has BBQ by the pound still available for purchase. The cost is $6 per pound. Please see one of the offices if you would like to purchase a pound or MORE!!!!
Pasta for Pennies
Within the next few weeks, VCS will once again sponsor the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Pasta for Penniescampaign. This campaign will raise funds for children that are fighting the battle against leukemia. The class that raises the most money will get a FREE lunch from “Olive Garden!” Consider donating to this worthy cause.
Middle School & JV Basketball Tryouts
Basketball tryouts will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28, respectively. The will be announced. All interested 7th-9th grade boys, please consider trying out!
VCS Hosts NCCSA State Cross Country
Please note that VCS will once again HOST the State Meet for Cross Country! If you would be willing to provide small individual bottles of water, grapes, oranges, apples and bananas, cut into quarters, that would be great! (Just put them in zip-top baggies – we will do the rest!) We need those given to “C” Building Office by Friday, October 31. Also, if you would like to be a line judge, let me know that as well.
We have a school parent that is a certified math teacher that is available during study halls for homework help, test preparation and remediation for grades 7-9. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me via email and I will pass on your contact information.
We still have a limited number of Spirit Wear shirts available. Please see Mrs. James in “C” Building if you would like to purchase one. By the way, we are going to place a second order for basketball season over the next few weeks. The shirts will have the same graphic, but we will office a long sleeved version as well for the cooler months. Keep your eyes peeled!
Again this year, Vandalia Baptist Church will host AWANA, (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed), a boys and girls club for children ages 3 through 6th grade. The program began September 10; however, it is not too late to join. The AWANA ministry is a free program held each Wednesday night from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Please contact Garrett Jackson at email@example.com or 303-2162 if you would like more information.

There is still room on this trip to England, France, Munich and Austria. It will be amazing!

The “Lost and Found” bins are located in “A” and “C” buildings. If your child has lost an item, please stop by and check these bins. All unclaimed items will be removed and donated to charity on at regular intervals.
Word from My Heart
My dad was known for his sayings. Some were so “odd” that only our immediate family knew what they meant. Sometimes he would say to me or one of my brothers, “You’re no better than a PTR.” Huh? But we knew that was his way of saying, “I love you.” Some of his sayings were more recognizable to the general public like, “Look for me when you see me coming!” One of my favorite sayings was, “Son, some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you.”
Have you ever had “one of those days” when the bear gets you? I am sure all of us have. Well, my dear VCS family, take hope! Days will come that are discouraging but our Lord knows the end from the beginning! He knew you would face days of discomfort and darkness, but I promise you, His arms are never too full that He cannot give you that hug of encouragement you need.
Remember, it is always alright to fall into His loving embrace….don’t fight it.
