Due to the wonderful response to our First Annual HARVEST MONTH we are going to extend it to next Wednesday, October 28. In Snow Camp, NC there is a ministry called Siloam Missionary Homes. This ministry is specifically designed to meet the needs of missionaries spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ that are home on furlough or are on deputation preparing for service to which the Lord has called them. Refer to the flier that was emailed to you a few weeks back. All classes that participate will be rewarded with a special treat during their lunch time in November.
VCS Hosts The State Cross Country Meet
Next Thursday, October 29, VCS will host the NCCSA State Cross Meet at Hagan-Stone Park. The meet will begin at 2:00 pm, with the walk though at 1:00pm. We are looking for volunteers to help with this event. If you would be willing to help as a line judge or donate quartered oranges or grapes plucked off the cluster, please let me know as soon as possible. Any and all help would be appreciated!
VCS Golf Tournament
A flier was emailed last week concerning the VCS Golf Tournament to benefit the VCS Golf Team. If you have any questions, please call Shane Trent at 336-362-9040.
Pennies for Leukemia Research
Again this year we will host the Pennies for Leukemia Research program. This program has been a great success over the last several years and we look forward to helping again with this worthy program. The program will begin in November. Special information will be sent home next week.
We have a family in the McLeansville area who is seeking help with afterschool child pickup a few days each week. If you can help, please call Mrs. James for contact information.
Interested students that will be 14 ½ by October 26 may register with Mrs. Keller in “A” Building. There is no charge for this class. A copy of your child’s birth certificate is required on the first day of class. Students must reregister by this Friday!
Due to growth in the after-school program, we have added another teacher! Because of that we now have several openings in the K3 and K4 after-school program. Call us for more information.
PTF BBQ for Sale
We have individually frozen pounds of our “WORLD FAMOUS” PTF BBQ for sale. The cost is $5 per pound. If you would like to purchase a pound or twenty, please stop by and see Mrs. James in “C” building. It makes a great easy week night dinner or a delicious addition to a weekend get-together!
Helping Us Help Your Children
Please consider turning in your BoxTops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products and Labels-for-Education from Campbell’s Soup products to your child’s teacher. Let’s set a new record this year for the most labels and boxtops turned in! Forms are available through the offices to make this process easier.
Remember to re-link your Harris-Teeter VIC card the next time you shop so we can benefit from their Together In Education program. Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227 the next time you use your VIC card. If you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school.
Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school. Mention us the next time you shop with them.
Target also makes donations. Just mention linking your Target account to VCS.
By the way, Aluminum can pop tops from soda cans, canned goods, etc., can be used help provide 1 FREE hour of chemotherapy treatment. Please give those “pop-top” tops placed in zip top baggies to Mrs. Herriage.
VCS Art Wall
The next time you are in “C” Building, stop by and check out the “Art Wall” that displays the art projects completed by our students. Many of these pieces will be going to regional and state level competitions!
Vandalia Baptist Church is sponsoring the AWANA youth outreach program on Wednesday nights. The AWANA program is a Christ-centered boys and girls club where they learn Bible truths, memorize Bible verses, play fun games and learn how to work together as a team. If your child does not already participate in a youth program at your home church, please consider this program.
Keep in mind that Vandalia Baptist Church has a mid-week prayer meeting from 7:30-8:30 during the same time AWANA is going on. Please feel welcomed to join us!
Word from My Heart
As most of you know, my daughter, Audra, is getting married next fall to an incredible young man named Justin and another of my sons, Adam, is getting married to an amazing young lady named Katlyn; this adds to the extended family already established with Drew and sweet Natalie. (I remember 20 years ago dropping them off in kindergarten and now I look where we are now!)
I remember my mom telling me to slow down and cherish the moments when your little ones are “under-your-feet.” I challenged her on that statement saying, “I can hardly wait until they are grown and move out.” Well, now I can hardly wait until they walk through the front door.
Cherish the moments of snuggles, smiles, tears and frowns. Your children are making memories every time they look into your eyes.
