7-12 Grade Exams
Exam Schedules were emailed home and a hard copy was given to each student last week. Please take special note of the information on that schedule. Students in grades 7-12 will be dismissed each day at 12 noon. However, if you are not able to pick up your child, study halls will be available on Monday and Tuesday. All students will be dismissed at noon on Wednesday, so there will be no study halls, but daycare will be open to students that are already registered. Also, please note that there will be no lunch served on Wednesday, December 18. Merry Christmas!
Our Fine Arts Department has worked diligently with our students to prepare for the upcoming concerts to honor the birth of our Lord and Savior. Please mark your calendars now to attend as many of these concerts as you can. The third of our Christmas concerts will be tomorrow, Thursday, December 12, at 7pm in the school gym.
Christmas Teacher Appreciation
A gift of only $30.00 is what we recommend to provide a Christmas bonus of a little over $200.00 for your child’s teacher. This is a nice reward for all their hard work. You can make this possible! Return your contribution for the “VCS Christmas Bonus” program by Monday, December 16 to show your appreciation for our teachers and help us reach our goal of $13,000. That’s a recommended gift of only $30.00 per VCS family!
Send your donation to the school office in the envelope we provided your child and watch the totals rise on the thermometers posted on the digital bulletin boards. Thank you again for your help and continued support for the ministry of Vandalia Christian School.
Friday Night Games
Please note that all four teams will be playing away at Grimsley High School Friday night, December 13 beginning at 5:00 with the JV girls. Please make your plans to attend if at all possible!
Please note that a change has been made as to when report cards will be sent home for this. We will send home report cards on January 8 rather than January 2. This will allow the teachers as little more time to grade final exams and record their grades. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to give me a call or shoot me an email.
Financial Office News
Please note that all accounts must be current for students to receive semester report cards. Also, remember that tuition is due by the first of each month. If you have any problems or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Overaker at 379-8380 x.14. Report cards, progress reports, access to HeadMaster Online and transcripts will not be available if accounts are not current.
Please keep in mind that if we close or delay school you will receive a call through our SchoolCast mass communication system. We also post that information on channels 2, 8 and 12. If you do not get a call or see it posted, that means we are on a regular schedule. Since we do not run buses we can often open school when the public schools cannot. With that being said, when we have wintry weather and VCS is open but you do not feel comfortable driving to school or sending your students that drive, please don’t. We will ALWAYS excuse tardies and absences due to inclement weather when school is open.
As part of our out-reach program, we would like to collect any unused Bibles you might have around your home. We will collect them at “C” Building. Thank you.
VCS High School Scholarship Information
Recently I received some information regarding a Private Scholarship opportunity that will afford an ongoing scholarship of $1500 per year for four years. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors. If you are interested, please go to http://www.hotelscheap.org/scholarship for more information.
Europe Trip 2015
If you were not able to attend the meeting in October concerning the trip we are planning to London, Paris, Switzerland and Austria, it is not too late! Please stop by the office in “C” Building to pick up information. This is going to be a great trip and since it is almost two years out, it is very cost effective! Please give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions. Please note that when you register online, our tour number is 1432788JD. That is different from the label on the flier you may have gotten. Sorry about confusion. This is going to be an amazing trip!!!
VCS Subway Night
Dear Vandalia Family, the next VIKING NIGHT at the Subway Restaurant located at 3212 Randleman Road across the street from the RUSH beside Food Lion, (only minutes from the school), is tonight, December 11 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. VCS will receive a gracious percentage of the net sales. Consider stopping by and get a healthy, fresh and delicious dinner…and help the school out at the same time! Tell your friends and other family members to come out for this great event.
Helping VCS While You Shop
If you shop at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Target or Lifeway, please consider linking your rewards card with our school. We get quarterly checks from them that go toward the Christmas Staff Appreciation Drive. Thank you for your consideration of this blessing to the teachers!

Lost & Found
Keep in mind that all lost items will be placed in “Lost & Found” in “A” and “C” buildings. Please check these weekly if you are missing anything. Please note that all of the unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of each month. If you will write your child’s name in all clothing items, we will make sure anything lost is returned to you.
Word from My Heart
Well, I did it. I said I wouldn’t, but I did. I got a new dog. Many of you may remember that Lucky, my Fox Terrier of 13 years, passed away several months ago. He was such a good dog and a good fit for my family that I said I would not get another dog fearing that I could not find another one like him. Then comes Kona. She is a mutt about the same size that Lucky was but looks like a tiny Rottweiler. She was found run over in the middle of Freeman Mill road and ironically we rescued her from the same vet where we got Lucky. She is a sweet mild mannered little dog.
The only concern I had was how the cats would react to her. When Kona came to live with us, the cats just looked at her and gave the, “whatever” stare. They ignore her, but are thankful to have dog food in the house again. (I have very odd cats.)
Many times God brings new things into our lives for our good. But how often do we look at those things and say, “whatever.” Rather than seeing that His plan is for our good, we think, “just leave things the way they are.” We will never grow in this Christian walk without change. There are things we need to learn, leave and love. Let God do a work in your life today and as you meet new challenges, I promise you He will be with you through it all.
