Vandalia Baptist Church has sponsored a special outreach program for students in grades K5-12 for nearly 30 years.  This is a boy’s and girl’s Bible club, (K5-6), and Youth Group, (7th-12th), that meets on Wednesday nights in our gym that promotes Bible verse memorization, fun games and team building activities.  Our first meeting will be held TONIGHT, Wednesday, September 14, at 7pm in the VCS Gym.  If your children do not already attend a Wednesday night youth meeting at your church, please consider our fun, active, dynamic youth AWANA/Youth Group program.

By the way, we have a Bible study in our church auditorium from 7:30pm-8:30pm while AWANA/Youth Group is taking place.  Please feel welcome to join us!

Book Fair 2016!

Please keep in mind that the our annual “BOOK FAIR” started on Monday, September 12, and will run through Saturday, September 17.  This event gives our students the opportunity to get some great books in their hands to read as well as benefiting our elementary school library!  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Herriage.

VCS-PTF Back-to-School Festival

A reminder concerning the upcoming Back-to-School Festival was sent home today with students in grades K3-8.  Please read this information carefully.  This event will begin on September 17 at 8:00am.  This annual tradition is not one to be missed!  All unsold tickets need to be returned by tomorrow, September 15.  BBQ Lunch tickets will be available for sale on September 17.

Mrs. Vickie Burgfeld is heading up our Five-for-Jesus community outreach program this year.  This program gives students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to do volunteer work in our community to help improve the lives of others.  There will be a meeting soon for those that wish to participate.

On Friday, September 9, we honored local “heroes” on “Patriots Day.”  An amazing amount of goodies were distributed to the Pleasant Garden Fire Department and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department.  Those community servants were overwhelmed by your generosity and thanks.  Thank you VCS family.

The final deadline for students in grades 7-12 to sign up to use eBooks is September 26.  Students must stop by to see Mrs. Frazier in “B” building to get a registration form by Friday, September 16.  Forms must be given to Mrs. Frazier by September 26.

Attention 5th & 6th grade parents: when picking up your child behind the church building, remember to enter and leave following the appropriate arrows that are marked on the parking lot.  This will eliminate the confusion as to how to pick up your child.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Herriage.

Helping Us Help Your Children

Remember to turn in your Box Tops-for-Education tabs from General Mills products and Labels-for-Education from Campbell’s Soup products to your child’s teacher.  Also remember to link your Harris-Teeter VIC card so we can benefit from the Together in Education program.  Just mention VCS and our school code, 2227.  If you have friends and family that are not already donating to other schools through the VIC card program, suggest they link their card to our school.  Food Lion’s MVP card is also linked to our school.  Mention us the next time you shop with them.

By the way, Aluminum can pop top tabs from soda cans can be used help provide 1 FREE hour of chemotherapy treatment.  Please give those “pop-top” tops placed in zip top baggies to Mrs. Herriage.

VCS Chick-fil-A Breakfast

Tomorrow morning, September 15, the Senior Class of VCS will make available Chick-fil-A biscuits in the Gym concession stand and the “C” Building cafeteria from 7:30am until 7:50am.  The cost per breakfast sandwich is $3.  This will be available every Thursday morning throughout the semester.

Word from My Heart

With Grandparent’s Day observed last Sunday and celebrated at our school tomorrow, September 15, I thought I would share with you a little bit about the history behind this very special day.

“National Grandparents Day falls each year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.  It’s not a holiday invented to sell cards and flowers.  It was initiated at the grassroots level by West Virginian Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, with the behind-the-scenes support of her husband Joseph L. McQuade.  They had 15 children, 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  After being married for over 60 years, Mr. McQuade passed away in 2001. Mrs. McQuade passed away in 2008.  She suggested that there should be three purposes for National Grandparents Day:

  1. To honor grandparents.
  2. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children.
  3. To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance that godly older people can offer.”

Be a blessing to others as those that have gone before us have been a blessing to us.
